IMPROVING PERFORMANCE Our methodology for improving performance is a top-to-bottom improvement system that provides a foundation for continuous improvement and serves as a catalyst for growth. It focuses on the role of leadership in the performance improvement journey and recognises that the majority of managers simply do not understand the variables that influence organisation and individual performance. Our Improving Performance Program closes that knowledge gap. The overall performance of an organisation (how well it meets the expectations of its customers) is the result of the objectives, structures, and management actions at organisation/infrastructure (corporate/strategic), process/function (operations), and job/task (implementation/action) levels. Corporate/Strategic Improvement Variables at the organisation level affecting performance include corporate objectives, strategies, performance measures, structure and resource deployment. Process/Function Improvement An organisation is only as good as its processes. To manage the performance variables at the process level, processes need to work effectively and efficiently, and process goals and measures must be driven by the customer's and the organisation's requirements. Job/Task Improvement Processes are performed and managed by individuals doing various jobs. Performance variables at the job/task level include hiring and promotion, job responsibilities and standards, feedback, rewards, and training. Achievement Is the Point of Focus Corporate objectives are unlikely to be achieved if they are not reflected in the goals of product development, operations and marketing (Corporate/Strategic); supported by efficient product development and introduction (Process/Function); and reinforced by the reward systems for those who design, make, sell and distribute (Job/Task).
